چکیده

The mydriatic effect of topically administered tropicamide was investigated as a possible diagnostic indicator for Alzheimer’s disease. Although an initial series seemed to show a correlation between hypersensitivity to tropicamide and intellectual impairment, subsequent testing showed a greater interand intra-individual variation than that between the normal group and the group of patients with intellectual impairment. This procedure seems, therefore, to lack sufficient specificity to be useful for such a diagnostic purpose. Copyright @ 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd

A mydriatic eye-drop combination without systemic effects for premature infants: a prospective double-blind study.

Eye drops used for diagnostic mydriasis may produce systemic side effects in preterm infants. Studies on the pupil dilating and systemic effect of various mydriatic agents yielded conflicting results. We conducted a prospective randomized double-blind study on the systemic effect of two mydriatic eye-drop combinations. Thirty-nine preterm infants were randomly assigned to two groups. An eye-dro...

Individual and Additive Mydriatic Effect of Tropicamide with Phenylephrine and Flurbiprofen in Diabetic Patients

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder and one of its major complications is diabetic retinopathy. For ophthalmological screening of diabetic retinopathy, we use mydriatic drugs for pupil dilation. As per the literature review, there is no clinical data available in Indian population for the combination of Tropicamide and Flurbiprofen. Hence, the present study was carried out in an a...

Microsoft Word - 1-2509-mahmoudian-or.DOC

BACKGROUND: Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) reportedly exhibit hypersensitivity to much diluted tropicamide solution (0.005%), a M4 muscarinic receptor antagonist. Therefore intraocular application of 0.005% tropicamide may be useful for screening dementia. The aim of this study was to simplify the pupil response test by using a new image analyzing system, which consists of a cheap, simp...

Use of a New Ocular Insert versus Conventional Mydriasis in Cataract Surgery

BACKGROUND To compare the efficacy and safety of a new ocular insert versus conventional mydriasis in cataract surgery. METHODS We selected 70 patients undergoing cataract surgery. Thirty five patients (Group 1) received instillation of mydriatic drops (tropicamide 1%, phenylephrine 10%, and cyclopentolate 1%) prior to surgery, and 35 patients (Group 2) had a Mydriasert insert (Théa Pharma) (...

Pupil Dilation with Intracameral Epinephrine Hydrochloride during Phacoemulsification and Intraocular Lens Implantation

Objective. To investigate mydriatic effect of intracamerally injected epinephrine hydrochloride during phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods. Eighteen cataract patients for bilateral phacoemulsification were enrolled. To dilate pupil, one eye was randomly selected to receive intracamerally 1 mL epinephrine hydrochloride 0.001% for 1 minute after corneal incision (...
